after i proposed my final project for my printmaking class this semester, my instructor turned my attention to julia fish, who makes minimalist paintings. her work is beautiful, combining geometric shapes, patterns and interesting color palettes to create her pieces. she teaches at uic and was listed as one of the whitney biennial 2010 artists. like the work i have been making this semester, julia uses imagery found within her home and studio, or, more specifically, she uses her home and studio as the subjects of her pieces. her forms are simultaneously abstracted and realistic, the two merged together by an unfamiliar choice of colors.
